The Nurse Practitioner - Soldier Readiness will perform services in an outpatient environment, possessing qualifications meeting or exceeding currently recognized national standards as established by the Joint Commission. Provide the highest consideration to patient dignity and observe the percepts of the American Hospital Association’s “Bill of Rights for Patients”.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and maintain proper medical record on beneficiaries to whom treatment is provided IAW AR 40- 66, Medical Records.
  • Take part in clinic Quality Assurance Program as required to meet the standards of the Joint Commission.
  • Follow the established operating procedures of the MTF where services are being provided. Participate in the quality control activities of the MTF.
  • Coordination with other departments of the medical facility staff to provide complete care to patients.
  • Provide and document medical advice to patients by telephone as appropriate and in accordance with MTF protocols.
  • Provide clinical direction to supporting government personnel assigned to their area during the performance of clinical procedures.
  • Responsible for the quality and the timeliness of treatment records and reports required to document procedures performed and care provided.
  • Participates in clinical education programs and in clinical staff quality improvement functions as prescribed by the department chief or his/her designee.
  • Comply with the MTF quality control program and the standing operating procedures of the MTF.
  • Participate in clinical and quality review processes as determined by hospital policy.
  • May occasionally be required to travel.
  • Military Planner Data Viewer (MPDV). This computer system is a readiness database system for read and write tasks being implemented at the Soldier Readiness.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Graduate of an NLN approved school of nursing
  • Graduate of a recognized advanced practice nursing educational program (accredited Master’s Level or Doctoral Program) and possess evidence of certification by a nationally recognized body according to the requirements of the advanced practice certifying organization, for example, American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP) Certification Program.
  • Possess evidence of successful completion of an ANP program of education
  • Possess current registration as a registered nurse in the United States. If the state of registration has a separate Advance Practice Nurse (APN) licensure, the FNP will also have APN licensure.
  • Possess and maintain a current, active, unrestricted state license to practice medicine in one of the 50 states in the United States, or the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Current certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in an active status granted by a national advance practice nursing specialty organization such as ANCC.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience within the past four (4) years of routinely practicing as a nurse practitioner.
  • Possess and maintain current certification in basic cardiac life support (BCLS). BCLS certification must be obtained through the American Heart Association approved training program. This is required to be an on-hands course, online certification is not accepted.


Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to become familiar with the hospital formulary and prescribe pharmaceuticals according to the drugs listed.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
  • Possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relations skills and social sensitivity such that he/she can relate constructively to a variety of patients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to meet and maintain Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements.
  • Ability to receive Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) required training for the position in which they will perform, and that training currency is maintained.
  • Ability to type and have had experience using computers, specifically Microsoft programs.
  • Possess sufficient training/experience to be able to adequately diagnose and treat acute diseases and injuries to include but not limited to the following: Skin Pulmonary System, Head, Gastrointestinal System, Eyes, Musculoskeletal System, Ears, Genitourinary System, Nose, Reproductive System, Throat, Lymphatic System, Neck, Central Nervous System, Cardiovascular System, Endocrine System.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain privileges at Carl R Darnall Army Medical Center (CRDAMC) through approval of the Credentials Committee.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
